7 TIPS TO A NEW YOU

“Motherhood is the greatest thing and the hardest thing.” – Ricki Lake.

Changes in life are many and not so subtle. And yet they seem to sneak up on you. You remain unaware as you transform from being self-caring to self-neglecting. Life spirals out of control and your self-image takes a beating. You spend lesser and lesser time on yourself; you lose your sense of personal style, your abilities and eventually your confidence.

So, what can you do to reverse this slide? How do you get back on the saddle? How do you learn to live again?

Here are 7 tips to get you started. Reinvent yourself. Rediscover your goals. Embrace life.

Understand your new body and embrace it.

So, your body has changed. Embrace the changes as a sign of your growth. Accept it. By developing a positive mindset about your body image and focusing on your best features, you will look at yourself from a fresh perspective. Looking great is all about working in harmony with your body shape and not against it. Nothing shines more than confidence and self-belief.

Stay fit and healthy with simple exercises

‘There is always time’. As long as you remember this, you will find time to fit in some form of exercise. Whether it’s a simple walk or swim, weight training or Zumba – make sure you find the time. Exercise is the best way to get yourself going and help you feel fit, toned up and energized. When you are tired, the last thing you may want to do is move. But when you exercise regularly, you lose that fatigue and look forward to these breaks.

Develop healthy eating habits.

Eating healthy is about eating right. The right type of food, in the right quantities and at the right time. Don’t make food your enemy. Remember the proteins and the fibre of course. Drink enough water and make sure fruits are not just for your kids. You need them too. Reduce the whites – carbs, sugar and salt. Introduce the changes gradually. Healthy eating should be for the whole family after all.

Get a trendy haircut

“A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life” is what Coco Chanel said! Your hairstyle is the ultimate accessory and one of the most important aspects of your image. Understanding your face shape, hair texture and skin tone will help you choose a cut that will reflect your character and help you gain in confidence. Whatever style or color you choose, make sure you own it!

Follow a simple skincare routine

A healthy complexion not only enhances the way you look but is also an indicator of the condition of your health. Your skin ages the fastest – so make sure you take care of it. This doesn’t mean you spend hours at the salon. Buy yourself some good quality products – A cleanser, a moisturizer and a sunscreen. Then set up a routine. Remember, it’s all about consistency.

Detox and Edit Your Wardrobe

There is no doubt that clothes give you confidence and are a great mood booster. While comfort and ease may still form the basis of your wardrobe choices, nothing stops you from making it fun and trendy. Reset your style, get rid of stuff lying around for years and please donate the pair of jeans that have been waiting for your waist to shrink. It’s time to move on. Buy yourself a few new pieces with some stunning accessories. Be stylish. Be confident. Be the new you.

Set new goals

Whether professional or personal, it is all about balance. Evaluate the different areas of your life, visualize how you would like them to be and then set goals and work out a plan to achieve your vision. Make sure that the goals you set are realistic and your action plan is achievable. And then do not stop. There is no better motivation.

Motherhood is a challenge. There is no denying that. But it doesn’t mean you give up on yourself because a happy child needs a happy mother.
